Given the immense weight of a Grand Piano, caster cups may be needed to protect your quality wood floors or carpet.   Since caster cups raise the height of the grand piano off the floor, the pedal assembly is also raised up correspondingly.   The increased height of the piano pedals from the floor increases the angle of the pianist (when his/ her ankles are resting on the floor) to his / her toes (reaching up to operate the pedals).  This increased angle on the foot can be uncomfortable for the pianist and can even cause cramps.
